Finances can cause friction in a relationship, but there are ways to manage your finances without falling out with your partner.
Discuss moving in with someone before you claim space in their closet. States have different rules when it comes to living unwed with someone, and you should know if your state recognizes common-law relationships or not.
Be aware of economic abuse. It could be someone not wanting you to work so that they control the finances, or it could be someone depending on you to take care of them; either way, it’s wrong, and you should discuss with your partner how you both will contribute.
While it may be easier to take care of monthly expenses with a joint account, put rules in place that you can agree on for taking money out of a joint account. Keep a separate account for your personal needs.
