From Over 9,000 Stores To Just 1

Remember the days of going to Blockbuster with your parents or friends? Rushing up and down the shelves filled with DVDs to find the newest flick. And then if you were really feeling yourself, you'd splurge and get yourself some candy or ready to make popcorn. Ahh, the good ole days. Once upon a time, Blockbuster had over 9,000 locations. But then the digital media age began, streaming services blew up and well now there is only ONE lonely Blockbuster store left.

This week two of the three remaining stores officially closed their doors in Anchorage, Alaska. After Sunday though only one Blockbuster will remain. CNN recently interviewed the store manager in Bend, Oregon and she attributed "loyal customers and tourists" for keeping her store alive.

Rewinding back to the late 90's, early 2000's when Blockbuster was booming, the stores were filled with a minimum of 7,000 movies. Once Redbox, Netflix, and other streaming services hit the streets it was a downward slippery slope for Blockbuster. The company filed bankruptcy in 2010 and it's remaining stores were bought out by Dish Network in 2011. As of right now, nothing has been said about possibly closing it's final location in Oregon any time soon.
