Another documentary about Britney Spears is coming—this time from the BBC.
On Wednesday (March 17), news broke that the BBC has greenlit Britney, which is a working title, a documentary project that will follow BAFTA-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar as he digs deeper into Spears life and her ongoing conservatorship.
The news of the BBC's project comes shortly after the massive success of FX/Hulu’s documentary Framing Britney Spears, which also detailed Spears' early career, her struggles as a conservator under father Jamie Spears, and the #FreeBritney movement. Azhar's take will see the journalist travel from the pop star's hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana, to Los Angeles. Along the way, Azhar will interview the devoted fans responsible for the #FreeBritney movement.
“I went to LA in search of the truth of how Britney Spears, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, ended up in a conservatorship," Azhar said. "I found myself in a world of lawyers, superfans and paparazzi and spent time with many of the people who’ve had a front-row seat in Britney’s life. This film taps into the energy of the #FreeBritney movement and questions the industry, fandom, and the laws that facilitate conservatorships.”
Britney will be broadcast on BBC Two, however, the premiere date is currently unknown.
