'Schitt's Creek' Sweeps 2020 Emmys & Sets New Record

Moira Rose finally got her Emmy — actually the entire cast of Schitt's Creek did, because they swept the 2020 Emmy Awards and even set a new record!

During this year's Emmys, the show won 9 awards in total, including Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series (Eugene Levy), Best Actress in a Comedy Series (Catherine O'Hara), Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Daniel Levy, Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Annie Murphy), Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Dan Levy), Best Directing for a Comedy Series (Andrew Cividino and Dan Levy), Best Writing for a Comedy Series (Dan Levy, Best Casting for a Comedy Series, and Best Contemporary Costumes.

With Schitt's Creek recently ending after six seasons, the show went from zero Emmys to nine wins in one year. This is a new record for most wins in a single season for a comedy series, which was previously held by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with eight wins.

Although this year the Emmys were socially-distanced as the nominees were called in via video chat, the cast of Schitt's Creek was together in Canada (safely with face masks) to accept their awards and celebrate their success. In fact, as the show's official Twitter account explained, "Some Schitt’s Creek cast and nominated team members have been able to gather for an #Emmys event in Toronto, adhering to Ontario’s COVID-19 guidelines. All in attendance have been in isolation since returning negative COVID-19 tests."

While accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, Dan Levy said in his speech, "Our show at its core is about the transformational effects of love and acceptance and that is something that we need more of now than we've ever needed before."
