Queen Elizabeth 'Strictly Bans' Mentions of Meghan Markle In Conversation

The Duchess Of Sussex Undertakes Her First Official Engagement With Queen Elizabeth II

Following a summer of intense backlash for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Queen Elizabeth reportedly doesn't want to discuss the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in casual conversation. Though there are contradicting stories about whether or not the Queen herself established this ban, multiple sources have revealed the monarch's courtiers are informing palace guests not to bring up Harry and Meghan in Queen Elizabeth's presence. Yikes!

According to The Sun, “Courtiers were aware the Sussexes are all anyone wants to ask her about. So to nip it in the bud some have taken to having a quiet word with some guests awaiting an audience with the Queen. They suggested that questions around Harry and Meghan may not be the best choice as a topic of polite conversation. Naturally it’s informal rather than any official policy and there’s no suggestion the Queen is even aware.”

Journalist Quentin Letts shared a similar anecdote on Twitter. "Friend of an acquaintance was about to go riding with HMQ [Her Majesty the Queen]. Was given v firm advice," Letts wrote. "Talk about anything except one subject. Brexit? No. The Sussexes."

In addition to not wanting to discuss Meghan and Harry's recent string of "PR blunders," the Queen reportedly felt "snubbed" by Meghan after the Duchess flew to New York City to watch Serena Williams play in the U.S. Open. According to Express, Meghan skipped out on a visit to Balmoral in order to visit the states. The Queen invited the Sussexes up to her Scottish vacation home to attend the Highland Games with her.

With their first official royal trip as a family of three on the horizon, Harry and Meghan are probably too busy to worry too much about these rumors. The Queen was reportedly delighted with Harry and Meghan after their last royal trip, so, maybe she'll be ready to talk about them in "polite conversation" again soon.
