Shawn Mendes & Khalid Team Up For "Youth," Mendes to Donate Merch Proceeds

It's officially May, which means that in a few short weeks, on May 25th, we'll finally be graced with Shawn Mendes' self-titled third studio album. And as fans are anxious to hear the entire 14-track set, our dear Shawn has shared another new song off the record, and it's his collaboration with Khalid called "Youth."

"Youth" is a powerful song with lyrics inspired by the horrific Manchester attack during an Ariana Grande concert last year, as well as the attack on London Bridge. Shawn told Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "It’s the most important song on the album. I was touring around Europe when the events of Manchester and London happened, it was very overwhelming." He added, "I wanted to write something about it but it had to be about the feeling for us as a generation when one of these things happens. So I wrote a song about our youth, a feeling that can’t be taken away from us."

In the chorus of the empowering song, Shawn and Khalid sing, "You can't take my youth away/ This soul of mine will never break/ As long as I wake up today/ You can't take my youth away."

Shawn has also launched official "Youth" merch via his website, including a hoodie, and proceeds from sales will be donated to March For Our Lives. Shawn explained on Twitter, "#Youth hoodie + Album collection available now. Will be donating a portion of all Youth collection sales to @AMarch4OurLives.

"Youth" is the third offering from Shawn's highly anticipated new album. The song follows "In My Blood" and "Lost In Japan," which he released at the end of March. The self-titled LP features 14 songs in total, and also includes a collaboration with Julia Michaels called "Like To Be You."
