Johnny Depp Jokes About Assassinating Donald Trump (VIDEO)

Johnny Depp joked about assassinating President Donald Trump during an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK on Thursday night.

The actor was on hand at the British music festival to introduce a screening of his 2004 film The Libertine, which was shown as part of the fest’s new Cineramageddon section. “Can we bring Trump here?” Depp asked from the stage, prompting the crowd to boo and shout, “No!” He added, “I think he needs help. This is going to be in the press, and it will be horrible. But I like that you’re all a part of it. When was the last time an actor assassinated a President?”

Depp’s shocking comment, seemingly a reference to actor John Wilkes Booth assassinating President Abraham Lincoln, got a mixture of groans and cheers from the audience. He went on to say, “I want to clarify, I’m not an actor. I lie for a living.” Trump often responds on Twitter when his famous detractors make off-color comments about him in public, but the president has yet to weigh in on Depp’s remark. Donald Trump Jr., however, tweeted, “Ha, Depp wants to make social commentary,” and posted a link to a Daily Mail article with the headline, “Johnny Depp’s team knew of alleged abuse of Amber Heard.”

Of course, Depp is not the first celebrity to joke about killing the current president. Shortly after Trump was inagurated in January, Madonna told a crowd at the Women’s March in Washington, “I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House.” Earlier this year, Snoop Dogg released a music video in which a clown version of Trump is kidnapped, tied up, held at gunpoint and shot with what turns out to be a toy gun. And most infamously, Kathy Griffin took a ton of heat last month when she posed for a photo holding the president’s fake decapitated head. Watch Depp’s assassination joke in the video below.
